Bootloader

Previous Versions

v4.38

Bootloader is the RedBoot operating system that runs the device during the power on phase, which then starts the default application on the DeviceMaster.

You can check the Bootloader version and if necessary, upload the latest version.

You should update to Bootloader v3.23 or higher, if you install the NS-Link driver v10.10 or higher for Windows or NS-Link v5.04 or higher for Linux.

Depending on the serial number of your DeviceMaster, you may need to use a minimum bootloader version due to a hardware update. You can also determine the minimum Bootloader version using the MAC address.

You can review the firmware History file for the latest updates and enhancements.

SocketServer

Previous Versions

v11.46

SocketServer is the default application that runs on the DeviceMaster and is for use with the NS-Link device drivers and applications that support Winsock connections, for telnet type connections, and for Serial Tunneling. You can use SocketServer to configure DeviceMaster ports for TCP/IP socket access from the other hosts or for serial tunneling.

Technical Support recommends that you update to the latest version of SocketServer before installing an NS-Link device driver or configuring socket ports. You can use PortVision DX to check the SocketServer version and if necessary, update SocketServer.

If you do not want to use PortVision DX to update SocketServer, you can use RedBoot. Refer to Uploading Firmware in the RedBoot Procedures section of the DeviceMaster Installation and Configuration Guide.

Depending on the serial number of your DeviceMaster, you may need to use a minimum SocketServer version due to a hardware update. You can also determine the minimum SocketServer version using the MAC address.

You can review the firmware History file for the latest updates and enhancements.

If this is a new installation, Pepperl+Fuchs Comtrol, Inc. advises installing this device driver.

If this is an existing installation running the IPv4 driver, you must remove the IPv4 driver. We advise saving the driver configuration files. You can download a two page document that will guide through this process.

Technical Support recommends that you update to the latest version of SocketServer before installing an NS-Link device driver.

If you are unsure about the driver version, use the Device Manager to check a driver version.

You can use the Windows driver installation procedures or optionally, open the DeviceMaster NS-Link for Windows User Guide, which provides detailed installation procedures.
